Brentwood NAPA Auto Parts Saturday was once again the go-to location for hot cars and community spirit as the city’s oldest business held its eighth annual Car Show.

Nearly 100 spit-shined beauties, music by the band No Reception and DJ Mo, food and friendship attracted hundreds. The event raised $4,000 and a pallet full of toys for the Brentwood Regional Community Chest’s Christmas Basket program. “One guy even drove through the parking lot and told us to take a box full of toys out of the back of his truck. He didn’t even get out; I don’t even know who he was,” said owner Linda Wilson.

Dedicated to the BRCC in honor of its founder, Rose Pierce, the event is special to Wilson because it’s about locals getting together to help local people. The community spirit of the event can be seen in the donations, she said, but also in the help provided by sponsors, the tolerance of neighboring businesses impacted by the crowds and cars, and Brentwood NAPA staff.

Dozens of awards were handed out, a special Best of Show trophy going to Adrian Hernandez’s 1962 Chevy Impala. One trophy was a rural-style mailbox with a custom paint job by Mickey Galloway, noted motorcycle painter whose clients have included the late founder of the Hell’s Angels, Sonny Barger.

A new memorial award was instituted this year in honor of Willie West, a local firefighter who lost his battle against cancer earlier this year. The inaugural award went to Andrew Gaul and his silver-and-black 1968 Camaro. Although the firefighters who made the selection were unaware, the car had been a project purchased as a distraction for Andrew and his father, AJ, a firefighter who used to work for the ECCFPD, when Andrew was undergoing successful treatment for leukemia.

Brentwood NAPA Auto Parts accepts donations for the BRCC year-round. The store’s address is 7881 Brentwood Blvd.
