The annual gala fundraiser, hosted by the SEED (Seeking Excellence in Education Development) Foundation, will be held on Saturday, March 7 at the Discovery Bay Country Club. Proceeds from the event will benefit the school district and will help pay for such items as computers, microscopes, library books and other curriculum-based products.
Publicity Chair Elaine Llandro is betting on a great event. “This is our only fundraiser this year, so we are pulling out all the stops,” said Llandro. “In the past we’ve raised as much as $20,000 to $30,000 for the school district, and this year, more than ever, we really need everyone to come on out and raise a paddle.”
The evening will include casino gaming, a Texas Hold’em Tournament (pre-registration is required), live and silent auctions, dinner, dancing and a no-host bar. Tickets are $75 per person and tables of eight or 10 can be reserved. The doors of the country club will open at 5:30 p.m.
“Things are shaping up pretty well,” said Llandro. “We’ve gotten a lot of great donations. We’re very excited.”
Founded in 1996, the SEED Foundation is a nonprofit educational foundation whose mission is to raise money to support academic programs for the three schools – Discovery Bay Elementary, Timber Point Elementary and Excelsior Middle – in the Byron Union School District. Through the efforts of SEED volunteers, the school district has been able to consistently, and significantly, fill in some of the financial gaps.
“I’m so appreciative of SEED’s continued support, especially during these difficult economic times,” said BUSD Trustee Bobbi Nugent. “I’m looking forward to attending this years SEED gala. I’m betting that the big winners of the evening will be the children of Byron Union School District.”
