The Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District has announced plans to fog for adult mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus.

"Due to the high number of mosquitoes and the detection of West Nile virus in the area, the Contra Costa Mosquito & Vector Control District will be fogging by truck to control adult mosquitoes on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 19 in Antioch," said a District press release.

The area to be treated is bordered on the north by Wilbur Avenue; by Hillcrest Avenue and Minaker Drive on the east; by Highway 4 on the south and A Street to the west.

The insecticide to be used is Pyrocide 7067. The risks to the public and to the environment are considered very low. Typical fogging operations use less than 2 ounces of active ingredient per acre, which minimizes exposure and risk to people and the environment.

The area will be sprayed between dusk (approximately 7:10 p.m.) and 11 p.m., weather permitting.
