East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Chief Hugh Henderson said the fire was reported at 1:53 p.m. and was contained at 3 p.m. Two engines and two water tenders from the ECCFPD responded, as did units from the county's Confire and the state's Calfire agencies. Two Calfire tankers and a helicopter fought the fire from above.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Calfire, Henderson said, but it might have been started by a spark from a mower. The area is mostly rolling hills and grassland. No structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
Henderson said Calfire crews would probably stay on scene all night to guard against flare-ups.
