Police, school and city officials are responding to rumors about the threat of a fight at Freedom High School in Oakley today, stating that no threats have been verified but that security is being elevated as a precaution.

Sheriff Spokesperson Jimmy Lee said the rumors are unsubstantiated, but police presence on campus will be increased.

According to Mayor Kevin Romick, authorities are on top of the situation. "Freedom High School and Oakley Police officials received information of a possible incident at Freedom today," Romick wrote in a Facebook post Friday morning. "Both organizations have mobilized, identified possible suspects and spoken to them already this morning. We’re not sure if any of the threats are valid; however there will be a large police presence at the campus today."

An automated phone call from the school this morning was received by families of Freedom students, indicating it believed the reports were merely rumors but that security was being stepped up.
