Excelsior Middle School sixth-grader Jonathon Knittel, 12, won first place in the Lions recent International Peace Poster Contest, sponsored by the Byron Delta Lions Club.

As Jonathon put it, “When countries unite, peace is made.” The Peace Poster Contest is an International competition that challenges students to explore and artistically express their thoughts about world peace.

Excelsior’s Leadership teacher, Kim Karr, invited her sixth-grade students to create a poster using this year’s theme, “Imagine Peace.” More than 40 entries were submitted and judged.

Reese Watkins-Nelson was awarded second place. The third-place prize went to Kayla Walsh.
