UPDATE:

Missing man Kenneth Kolthoff, 87, was located this afternoon at about 2 p.m., according to Jimmy Lee, director of public affairs with the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.

Brentwood Police were called to a gas station at Lone Tree Way and Brentwood Boulevard after a citizen at the station reported sighting a man conforming to Kolthoff’s description. The citizen had seen earlier media reports about Kolthoff, a resident of unincorporated Brentwood.

Deputy sheriffs confirmed that it was Kolthoff. He had apparently gotten lost and spent the night riding his bike trying to get home. He was reported to be in good health and was taken home.

Man missing in Brentwood

The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff is searching for 88-year-old Kenneth Kolthoff. The resident of the 2700 block of Virginia Drive in unincorporated Brentwood was reported missing by family yesterday at about 8:45 p.m. Kolthoff was last seen riding his bicycle on an errand in the vicinity of the 8400 block of Byron Highway at around 4:30 p.m. He is said to be in good health and not taking any medication.

An extensive area search by deputy sheriffs was augmented by a K-9 search-and-rescue effort and inquiries at local hospitals, but Kolthoff could not be found. He was entered in the state missing persons database.

Kolthoff is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes and was wearing a brightly colored heavy jacket and dark pants. He was last seen riding a bicycle.
