Editor:

I have to agree with A. Lowrey in her Jan. 18 letter to the editor. We have a tradition here in Oakley, in that we rotate our council members. Let’s not be like the rest of our sister cities and not have an election to solve this problem. Let’s do what is right.

Kevin Romick was mayor in 2012; that means the vice mayor Carol Rios would become mayor in 2013. Carol Rios has stated that she could not take that position, so that means the next in line would get it.

I know that it is on the agenda for the Jan. 22 meeting, but this should not have gotten this far. The right thing to do is make Randy Pope our mayor and have Diane Burgis the next vice mayor. Or we can be just like the rest of our sister cities and Oakley would have to pay for a special election for a four-year term for mayor and vice mayor.

But remember, we are not like our sister cities. Let’s keep our tradition going.
