Antioch residents Nicholas Shankaran and Miko Centeno have more in common than being cousins. They’re both 17, attend De La Salle High School and have hiked 258 miles around California. Members of Antioch’s Boy Scout Troop 247 since 2006, both young men became Eagle Scouts on Nov. 29, 2012.

For his Eagle Service project, Nicholas supervised the construction of two sitting planter boxes for growing vegetables at the downtown Antioch Community Garden. The son of Ravi Shankaran, Nicholas is a junior who plays football and rugby. He would like to pursue a career as a veterinarian.

Miko’s Eagle Service project consisted of making a soundproof booth for the Teen Life Ministry at Holy Rosary Church. He made walls, desks, shelving and set up partitions. The son of Lino and Marie Centeno, Miko is a senior honors student and volleyball player. He plans to attend UC Irvine next fall with the intent to become a medical doctor.

Nicholas and Miko became Troop 247’s 12th and 13th Eagle Scouts. They’ll be honored in a National Eagle Court of Honor on April 6.
