Brand-new recreation classes augment popular past programs offered by the City of Oakley this spring:

Bocce Ball

Designed for ages 18 and older, games are held Tuesdays and Thursday, March 26 through May 16. The fee is $20 per player.

Creative Movement

Designed for ages 3 through 5, the class meets Thursdays, March 21 through April 18 from 3:30 to 4:10 p.m. Creative Movement is a new, fun-filled class that encourages children to use their imaginations and express individuality through improvisation, improve motor skills and build self-esteem as they learn the basics of dance. The fee for the six-week class is $55 for Oakley residents; $65 for non-residents. A second session is held April 25 through May 23.

Urban Jazz Dance

Designed for ages 6 through 11, the class meets Thursdays, March 21 through April 18 from 4:10 to 5:10 p.m. This dynamic class introduces students to diverse dance styles such as lyrical, modern and ballet accompanied by a variety of music genres such as jazz, blues, pop, and rhythm and blues. Students will develop physical strength, technique and personal style through creative movement. The fee for the six-week class is $55 for Oakley residents; $65 for non-residents. A second session is held April 25 through May 23.

Biddy Sports T-Ball

Designed for ages 3 through 5, the class meets Saturdays, April 13 through May 18 from 9 a.m. to noon. Children will learn basic skills in a non-competitive atmosphere where children participate at their own level and ability. Participants will develop social skills in a fun, safe and family-oriented environment while learning to be part of a team. Each class will include warm-up, practice and game play. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to participate by coaching their child’s team – no experience required. The class is divided into one-hour segments. The fee, which includes a T-shirt, is $60 for Oakley residents; $70 for non-residents.

Junior Tennis

Designed for ages 4 through 10, the class meets Mondays, April 8 through May 13 from 4 to 5 p.m. This class is designed for first-time and experienced players alike. Kids will be grouped by skill level. Instruction will cover warm-up and hand-eye coordination drills as well as basic fundamentals of proper stroke development. The fee for the class is $85 for Oakley residents; $95 for non-residents.

Junior Development Tennis

Designed for ages 11 through 14, the class meets Thursdays, April 11 through May 16 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The class is designed for students who have some tennis experience. Students should be comfortable with all the basic shots. Motor skills and hand-eye coordination drills will be included along with further stroke development and point play. The fee for the class is $115 for Oakley residents; $125 for non-residents.

Zumba

Designed for ages 14 and older, the class meets Tuesdays, April 2 through May 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. The Latin-inspired dance-fitness class combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. The fee for the class is $48 for Oakley residents; $58 for non-residents.

Beginning Ballroom Dance

Designed for ages 18 and older, the class meets Thursdays, April 4 through May 9 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Participants will experience the joy of social dancing through dance styles including ballroom, Latin and swing. Students will focus on learning one dance style well. Signing up with a dance partner is recommended. The fee for the six-week class is $70 for Oakley residents; $80 for non-residents. A second session is held May 16 through June 20.

Rebound Basketball Spring Camp

The camp is offered to students in grades K-2 the week of March 18; grades 3-5 the week of March 25 – from 9 a.m. to noon. Camp fees are $165 for Oakley residents; $175 for non-residents. Regular weekly classes begin April 3.

Weekend Warrior Adult Flag Football

For participants 18 and older, the flag football season runs Sundays, March 24 through May 26. Grab your friends and neighbors to sign up as a team (a minimum of eight players is recommended) or as a free agent and you’ll be assigned to a team. Competitive, recreational and co-ed divisions are available. Games are scheduled between 1 and 6 p.m. Fees for a team of eight to 10 are $425; $75 for free agents. The summer season runs from June 16 to Aug. 18.

Hula Hoop Fitness

Designed for ages 16 and older, the class meets Sundays, March 17 through April 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This popular new fitness class will get you burning up to 110 calories in 10 minutes. The new and improved fitness hula hoops allow everyone to be successful. The fee for the six-week class is $50 for Oakley residents; $60 for non-residents. Additional sessions are held April 26 through June May 24 and June 4 through July 2.

Hunter Safety

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife offers this 15-hour, three-day class to teach participants respect for natural resources, respect for the firearm and the laws governing hunting in California. The culmination of the course is a 100-question, closed-book exam. Students must score a minimum of 80 percent to pass the exam and receive a DFW certificate, which allows them to purchase a State of California hunting license. Full attendance is mandatory. Classes are held March 22 to 24 and May 17 to 19. The fee is $15.
