The second round of the North Coast Section playoff starts tonight. The Heritage girls basketball team, which won the Bay Valley Athletic League and is ranked No. 1 overall in the tournament, makes its playoff debut tonight at home against San Ramon Valley.

The only other BVAL team remaining in the playoffs is No. 4 seed Deer Valley, which plays at home against Berkeley following its defeat of Freedom 82-42 Tuesday night. Heritage enters the playoffs after winning its first-ever league title this season. The Patriots cruised through the season, finishing 22-4 and 10-0 in league play.

Prior to this season, Deer Valley had won the BVAL six years in a row. Heritage is scheduled to play at home Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. Deer Valley also plays on its home court Feb. 22. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
