Zachary, 12 – whose right leg was amputated above the hip last July after a tree fell on him during a family camping trip – has undergone months of hospitalization, surgeries and rehabilitation. The upcoming fundraiser will help offset the family’s ongoing medical expenses.
Zachary’s uncle, Brentwood resident Eric Engberg, said the family is heartened and grateful for the community outpouring of support: “It’s been a really hard, difficult time. He’s making some progress and we’re trying to stay positive. But the support has been so encouraging; Brentwood is just that kind of community.”
Zachary was injured on July 25 in San Mateo Memorial Park near Pescadero, when a 47-foot tanoak tree toppled into the campsite, onto Zachary’s tent, bounced off the sleeping boy and landed a few feet away. The tree struck Zachary’s pelvic area, causing internal bleeding and grievous injury. He is expected to undergo as many as 50 surgeries over the course of his rehabilitation.
Tickets to the event are $25 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under. To purchase tickets, visit www.norcaltitansbaseball.com or call 510-708-2972. To view Zachary’s journey and progress, log onto Facebook.
