There’s still time to turn in your used sneakers for charity. Timber Point Elementary school’s 2013 Eco Challenge for Education wraps up on the 19th. Since March, students and their families have contributed more than 200 sneakers to the nonprofit organization Green Sneakers, which refurbishes used sneakers for re-use.

The Eco Challenge provides sneakers to some of the world’s neediest people, including those in emergency-relief areas. The Green Sneakers Organization helps improve conditions and create jobs in these developing areas. The fundraiser is a perfect way to educate our youth about the growing green trend and teach them to preserve the environment.

Shoes can be dropped off at Timber Point Elementary, 40 Newbury Drive in Discovery Bay. For more information, visit www.greensneakers.org/ecochallenge.
