A pedestrian was stuck and killed in an early morning accident on State Route 4 just west of Newport Drive in Discovery Bay.

According to CHP Officer John Fransen, officers responded to a call at 12:18 a.m. Monday that a blue Kia driven by a 45-year-old Stockton resident had struck and killed a 30-year-old pedestrian, also from Stockton. The names of the driver and victim have not yet been released.

“The car was going approximately 55 miles an hour in the eastbound lane when the driver observed a male who suddenly appeared in the roadway,” said Fransen. “The driver was unable to stop or take evasive action and collided. It appears to have just been a tragic accident.”

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. According to Fransen, alcohol or drugs does not appear to have been a factor.
