Esequiel Zuno Ortega of Brentwood, 64, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Esequiel was born on April 22, 1944 in the town of Santa Clara in Jalisco, Mexico. He worked at the Interpace/North American Refractories brick factory in Pittsburg for more than 20 years. For the last 10 years, he worked for the City of Brentwood in the Parks and Recreation Department.

Esequiel was a longtime member of the Comite Civico Patriotico and Comite Mexicano De Beneficencia. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, watching futbol Mexicano, day trips to Jackson Rancheria and annual trips to Yosemite. Most of all, he enjoyed being with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Celia (Sally); sons, Carlos (Rosemarie) and Edwardo; grandchildren, Noah and Max; brothers, Juan, Luis and Lupe; and sisters, Rosario, Maria de Jesus and Angelina. Esequiel was preceded in death by his parents, Reyes and Maria de Jesus; brothers, Jose, Ciro and Guadalupe; and sisters, Maria and Josephina. Funeral services were held on March 20 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brentwood, followed by burial at the Brentwood Union Cemetery.
