Supporters of former Oakley science teacher and Boy Scout leader Kathy Overturf are inviting locals to join their effort to fight cancer and get a delicious meal at the same time.

Team Overturf will take to the track at Freedom High on May 2 and 3 in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. “This is the second year we have walked to support Kathy,” said team member Lisa Brizendine. “She is a beloved member of our scouting family (Troop 298) and a really great friend to us all. The boys were devastated to learn that Kathy was fighting cancer and this is their way to support her.”

The Team Overturf fundraiser will be held April 6 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Oakley’s Black Bear Diner, 3201 Main St.
