On Thursday, May 21, Delta Diablo 4H Club went to Union Cemetery to plant flags at the headstones in remembrance of our nation’s soldiers and veterans.

Many soldiers and veterans who served in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the War in Vietnam – and fought and died for our freedom – are laid to rest in Union Cemetery.

We were given a bunch of flags and we split up into groups of two and three. We decided who would go to which area of the cemetery so we could cover the entire area. We walked up and down the rows reading the names. My group had one of the cemetery employers walking with us. He pointed out and told us many stories about the people who had died and the ways they had helped during the wars. It was more personal having him tell the stories to our group.

It was important for us to do this to show how much we respect and appreciate the soldiers for what they did for us and our country. Our 4H Club goes to this cemetery every year and we hope to continue because it is a great activity.
