When the doors open for Sunday breakfast at 7 a.m., people begin to come in droves, seeking the popular carnitas scrambles, chicken chili scrambles, three meat scrambles and customized omelets. According to owner Cindy Caprio, the food is so popular that people will wait for an hour to get a table.
“It gets pretty busy here,” Caprio said. “People are waiting out the door. Sunday breakfasts are busiest, but we also get a lot of traffic from people coming off the water. They’re tired and hungry and want to grab a bite to eat before they go home.”
To help keep the overflow happy while they wait, Orwood offers a Bloody Mary Bar where guests can build their own drinks. While the café operates a stocked bar, the Bloody Mary remains the favorite – such a staple that the café crew pickles the asparagus themselves to give their drink some extra zing.
The quaint café features indoor and outdoor dining and plenty of homemade fixings to fill you up to get you ready for your day or help you unwind after a fun-filled afternoon on the water.
Orwood is famous for the Okie Taco, a 10-inch tortilla filled with seasoned ground beef, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, green onions and cheese. For the health conscious, the Okie “light” taco is filled with lean chicken breast instead of beef. Other Orwood classics include the Lissyburger, Bleu Cheese Burger, Bacon Mushroom Melt, and the Big D, a double-decker burger with two 1/3-pound beef patties topped with cheese and a side of fries.
While the food is flavorful, it’s also reasonably priced. Meals range from $6.99 to $10.99. The café also features happy-hour specials during the week, such as Taco Tuesday, where you can get Orwood’s famous tasty tacos for $2 each –drastically reduced from the usual $7.99. Deals on potato skins, hot wings, mozzarella sticks and chips and salsa are also offered throughout the week as part of the happy-hour menu.
Drinks, of course, are specially priced during happy hour (3 to 6 p.m.). Draft beer is available for $1, margaritas for $2, and the Orwood Ale also $2.
As the summer months heat up, Orwood offers another treat for visitors: homemade milkshakes. The icy delicious desserts come in a variety of flavors, from the classic chocolate, vanilla and strawberry to the more exotic orange, grape, peanut butter and root beer.
Orwood’s low prices and a 50-year history on the Delta prompt Caprio to say she’s surprised that new customers continue to discover the Resort each week: “This is a unique place because it’s right on the water. We’ve been here for years, but people are still just hearing about us. We’ll run a coupon every now and then, and that brings people in. They live five miles away but they never knew we were here. We’re seeing new people all the time.”
Food is also available to go, so you can enjoy the delectable flavors of Orwood Resort Café on the water or at home.
