Editor:

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff of the Byron-Brentwood-Knightsen Union Cemetery District, I would like to thank the following organizations for another successful Memorial Day ceremony, held Monday, May 25. They are as follows:

The American Legion Roy Frerich’s Post 202 for maintaining the Veterans Memorial area and for placing miniature flags on the headstones of veterans; Veterans of Foreign War Charles McCurtain Post 10789 for conducting the Monday ceremony; Wards One and Three of the Brentwood Church of Christ the Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) for the detailed cleaning of the cemetery grounds prior to Memorial weekend; Boy Scouts of America Troops 90, 93 and 514 for assisting the VFW with parking, setting up and tearing down; the Liberty Union High School music program for supplying the music for the ceremony; various speakers and dignitaries, both military and civilian, who gave up their day off work to be a part of the service; the 4-H groups of Brentwood and Byron/Discovery Bay for assisting the American Legion in placing the miniature flags on veterans’ graves; and last but not least, the citizens of East Contra Costa County for attending the ceremony. Without an appreciative audience, these groups would have no purpose in planning and holding the ceremony.

Mark R. White, District Manager
