Roger Franklin Lapum was born in San Jose at the old San Jose Hospital. He went to grade school at the elementary school, which is now Old Town in Los Gatos, and graduated from Los Gatos High School in 1945. Following that, he served in the U.S. Army in Panama.

Roger earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Heald Engineering College in San Francisco. Before retiring in 1988, he was an engineer in the Store Design Department of Safeway Stores. The love of his life was his family: his wife of 53 years, Ina Rae Lapum; sons, Greg Lapum (Penny) of Castro Valley, and Jeff Lapum (Kelly) of Brentwood; and daughter, Jodi Dyson (Greg) of Rocklin. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Chad Lapum of Orleans, Neb.; Mandy Lapum of Castro Valley; Emma Lapum of Brentwood; and Drew and Kyle Dyson of Rocklin.

In the past, Roger has been an active member of the Neighborhood Church of Castro Valley, Creekside Church of Alamo, and he most recently attended Golden Hills Community Church in Brentwood. He played in a Summerset bowling league and served as treasurer for SIRS Branch #108 in Brentwood.

Roger had a great love for his Lord, and it was so appropriate that he went home to his Heavenly Father on Father’s Day. He also loved all of his neighbors and friends. He certainly will be missed.

A celebratory memorial service was held at Golden Hills Community Church on June 26. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Golden Hills’ Women’s Network Memorial Fund. Arrangements were provided by Bay Area Cremation & Funeral Services of Brentwood.
