The City of Oakley Planning Department is in the process of drafting a new sign ordinance to replace the Contra Costa County sign ordinance currently in place.

The department will hold a public workshop on Tuesday, July 28 at 6 p.m. to explain the differences between the current and proposed sign ordinance, and to gather comments, suggestions and feedback from the city’s business owners. The meeting takes place in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 3231 Main St.

An amendment to the city’s municipal code will establish zoning regulations for wall signs, freestanding signs, freeway signs and temporary signs. The regulations will establish a permitting process for permitted, temporary and exempt signs. The new regulations will establish criteria for sign height, square footage and locations in which signs may be permitted.

The Draft Sign Ordinance may be viewed at City Hall or on the City’s Web site, www.ci.oakley.ca.us. For more information, call Senior Planner Joshua McMurray at 925-625-7004 or e-mail at mcmurray@ci.oakley.ca.us. Those who can’t make the meeting are encouraged to forward comments in writing to City Hall or McMurray’s e-mail address.
