Editor:

The guest comment of June 19 by former councilmember Brad Nix (Click here to read "Why Oakley’s city attorney was forced out") expressed concern with the hiring of new City Attorney Bill Galstan. I appreciate Mr. Nix’s concerns with the Oakley City Council’s decision to replace Ms. Green with Mr. Galstan.

The residents of Oakley should be aware that the hiring of Mr. Galstan is Oakley’s gain and Antioch’s loss. Bill Galstan was a wonderful attorney for the City of Antioch. His intelligence, wisdom and experience allowed Antioch to develop and expand with few problems.

There were times when certain Antioch council members did not heed his advice. As a long-time Antioch commissioner, I experienced firsthand how he walked the city through the mine fields in these trying times. There is no substitute for experience. Oakley should celebrate, not despair. Oakley Council members and commissioners should heed his advice.
