The International Association of Firefighters Local 1974 has announced its endorsement of Sen. Mark DeSaulnier for Congress. Local 1974 joins a long list of other labor organizations in support of DeSaulnier for Congress, including the Contra Costa Central Labor Council, Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Council, the Alameda Central Labor Council, and United Professional Firefighters of Contra Costa County Local 1230.

“We are proud to stand with Contra Costa County Firefighters in endorsing Senator Mark DeSaulnier for Congress,” said Jason Solak, President of Local 1974. “Mark has been an ally to organized labor throughout his career in public service, and his dedication to the health and safety of working people is unquestionable. He has continually fought for public safety, job creation and labor rights on the local and state level and will no doubt continue this strong advocacy on the national level. Working families throughout CD 10 will be well-represented with Mark DeSaulnier as their Congressman.”

“I am honored to receive Firefighters Local 1974’s endorsement for Congress,” said DeSaulnier. “As a state senator, state assemblymember and Contra Costa County supervisor, I have fought to protect the rights of workers and their families. When I am in Congress, I will continue to support these rights by advocating for fair wages, universal health care, and the safety of all workers in CD 10.”

DeSaulnier, a Democrat, has been endorsed by former Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher, Congressman George Miller, Assemblyman Tom Torlakson, and over a dozen local labor unions and over two dozen local elected officials.

DeSaulnier is a candidate for former Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher’s seat in the 10th Congressional District. Tauscher retired from Congress in June.
