The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) has announced its endorsement of State Sen. Mark DeSaulnier for Congress. The IAFF joins a long list of labor organizations in support of DeSaulnier for Congress, including the Contra Costa Central Labor Council, the Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Council, the Alameda Central Labor Council, the Contra Costa Firefighters and the Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters.

“We are proud to join Locals 1230 and 1974 and endorse Senator Mark DeSaulnier for Congress,” said International Association of Firefighters General President Harold Schaitberger. “The IAFF is endorsing Mark DeSaulnier for Congress because of his unwavering attention and dedication to the needs of working American families. Mark has fought for the health and safety of working families in CD 10 at the local and state levels, and we know he will continue to fight for public safety, job creation and labor rights at the national level.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement from the International Association of Firefighters,” said DeSaulnier. “As a state senator, state assemblymember and Contra Costa County supervisor, I have fought for fair wages and benefits for all workers in CD 10. When I am in Congress I will continue to support worker’s rights by advocating for universal health care and the safety of all workers in CD 10.”

DeSaulnier, a Democrat, has been endorsed by Congressman George Miller, Assemblyman Tom Torlakson, over a dozen local labor unions and over two dozen local elected officials. DeSaulnier is a candidate for former Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher’s seat in the 10th Congressional District. Tauscher retired from Congress in June.
