WHAT: To encourage parents and students to protect themselves and others from the H1N1 flu this school year, Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) has launched a new Web page with back-to-school health tips, videos and podcasts. The page features a new podcast by County Health Officer Dr. William Walker about what to expect in the coming months and ways students can protect themselves from H1N1 flu.
WHO: The new materials provide important information to parents and school-age children. School-age children are at a high risk of getting sick with H1N1 and exposing older relatives and younger siblings to the virus.
WHERE: Anyone with an active Internet connection can access the new page online at www.cchealth.org/topics/swine_flu by clicking on the Information for Parents link in the left navigation menu.
WHY: The H1N1 flu virus has caused many people to become ill in our communities. While most illness has not been severe, there have been fatalities linked to the H1N1 flu virus. By taking everyday actions to stay healthy, communities can greatly reduce the spread of the H1N1 flu.
H1N1 flu information is updated regularly at www.cchealth.org and information is available in Spanish and English online and on the CCHS Health Emergency Information Line at 888-959-9911.
