Based on Ovid’s transformation myths, “Metamorphoses” by Mary Zimmerman subtly mixes the ancient stories of pathos and tragedy with contemporary language, humor and thought, all enacted in and around a large pool of water in the center of the stage.

The themes of love, the inevitability of change, and the human ability to adapt to change are timeless, amply demonstrated by the eerie similarity of some of play’s vignettes to Ovid’s original text, which still resonates with modern viewers.

Performance dates are Sept. 4, 5, 10 and 11 at 7 p.m., and Sept.12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $9.50 and available online at www.lhsplaymakers.com or by phone at 925-634-3521, ext. 5489.
