Byron residents are getting ready for a hot time at the Chili Cookoff and Family Fun Day set for Oct. 10.

Kathy Leighton reports that there is some fierce competition brewing among local residents determined to find out “Who’s going to knock everybody’s socks off and win bragging rights of Best Chili?”

The secret to success? You gotta get in it to win it. To enter the competition, call Cindy Ehling at 925-381-3224.

In addition to the chili competition and tasting, the event will feature vendors, a children’s area, live music, a car show and tri-tip dinner. The event will be held on Main Street, and except for the barbecue, it’s free. Barbecue tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, and can be purchased by calling 925-634-0917.
