In other Ally news: the Freedom High School freshman was released from the hospital last week just in time for a celebration on Oct. 7. Ally celebrated her 15th birthday with a trip to the beach with her friends and family, followed by a taco dinner. Ally and her family are living in an apartment in San Francisco while she continues outpatient treatment at UCSF.

You were speeding a smidgen and got pulled over. Big deal, right? Well, that’s when the weirdness begins – for the cop. From DUI to drug abuse to felony warrants to loaded firearms in the glovebox, our front-line law enforcers never know what they’re getting when they walk up to the driver’s window. We thought a statistical analysis was in order, and found that one in four entries in the Brentwood Police Department Public Logs involves a traffic stop. Of those, one in two involves a driver with a suspended license or no license at all. Our conclusion: don’t get too relaxed out there on the road. Way too many drivers have no business getting behind the wheel in the first place.

Time for school to restart, please: We don’t know for sure it was bored kids on break, but in addition to water-bottle-throwing incidents on the Bypass this week, emergency officials responding to a small fire under the railroad trestle near Sand Creek Road discovered evidence that someone had set off a pipe bomb there. The ATF and the FBI came out to collect samples of the galvanized pipe used to make the thing, but won’t investigate any further unless something else happens. Everyone we here at the Press have talked to said the same thing: “The kids are on break, huh?”
