On hand to confer the award were DAR Chapter Regent Sally Holcombe, Corresponding Secretary Diane McLean and Flag of the United States of America Chairman Diane Larson. The golf course flies a properly lit and maintained U.S. flag 24 hours daily, 365 days a year.
On that same day, the chapter also presented a Flag Certificate to Mr. Mildon Reed of Antioch. Reed, a World War II veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps, returned home after the war and began flying the flag outside his home. He has properly raised and retired his flag every day since his discharge from active duty. He currently has two grandchildren serving in the armed forces.
Daughters of the American Revolution is a charitable service organization supporting three types of projects: preservation of American history, better education for a more enlightened citizenry, and patriotism. DAR chapters award flag certificates to local businesses and under special circumstances, individuals who fly the flag correctly and consistently. The purpose of the award is to support those who already fly the flag on a regular basis in order to encourage a greater number of correctly displayed flags and educate the public about the United States Flag Code.
