One of the biggest parties of the year in Discovery Bay will be taking to the water on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 5 p.m. from Lighthouse Bay as the community celebrates the holidays with the 2009 Lighted Boat Parade.

Hosted by the Discovery Bay Yacht Club, the parade is open to members and non-members alike. This year’s theme is Toys of Christmas, and competitive categories include Large Boat (37 feet and over), Small Boat (36 feet and under) and nonmembers (all sizes).

“We are looking forward to having as many people participating in the parade this year as possible,” said Pat Anderson, one of the parade organizers. “You do not need to be a member of the yacht club to participate, and we encourage and welcome all non-members to come.”

An awards party held at the yacht club follows the parade, and all who participated in the parade are welcome. Residents along the parade route are encouraged to turn on their dock lights to help the boats navigate safely.

For more information or to sign up for the parade, call Anderson at 925-216-4411 or e-mail pat4411@sbcglobal.net.
