Three East County Round Table Pizza restaurants are pitching in to help Freedom High student Ally Jenkins and her family.

Ally came home last month following a nearly three-month stay at UCSF Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension in July. The incurable condition, which hinders the flow of blood from the heart to the lungs, required a double lung transplant, which she received from a donor in August.

Despite a daily regime that includes 45 pills and a consistent exercise program (the first six months of development after transplant surgery determines a recipient’s lung capacity for life), Ally’s mom Vickee says her daughter has recovered beyond even her doctor’s expectations.

“She’s doing well,” said Vickee. “It’s definitely an adjustment trying to deal with the daily work of getting stronger, but her doctors are calling her a rock star. She has surpassed everything they could have hoped for and continue to be encouraged by her progress.

“We all continue to get so much support from the community, it’s just amazing. No one has gone away. We’re just so grateful.”

The fundraising event will be held Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Customers who mention Ally will have 20 percent of their order donated to the family. Participating locations are in Brentwood at 2540 Sand Creek Road (925-240-8778), Antioch at 4504 Deer Valley Road (925-776-7777) and Oakley at 2190 Main St. (925-625-1700).
