LUHSD Educational Foundation President Karen Rarey presented Board President Joanne Byer with a $2,724 check for its annual fall grant awards at last week’s board meeting. Faculty and staff were thrilled to hear that three of their grant proposals for projects that require extra funding will soon become a reality. Fall 2009 grant awards included these projects:

• Science classes at Freedom High will purchase kits that enable students to measure the effectiveness of solar power and analyze variables that interfere with maximum capacity.

• The Heritage High Environmental Science Academy and other classes will benefit from an environmental research plot that will provide an array of habitats for ongoing science projects.

• English classes at Freedom High will purchase Wordsmart Kits and white boards to support improvement in vocabulary development and knowledge.

The Liberty Union High School District Educational Foundation is a nonprofit organization that relies on fundraising events and donations from the public to finance these scholarships. The support of Foundation contributors is greatly appreciated. Checks should be made out to the Liberty Union High School District Educational Foundation and sent to: Liberty Union High School District, 20 Oak St., Brentwood, CA 94513. Donations to the LUHSD Educational Foundation are tax deductible.
