The story traces the struggle of Isaiah, a 15-year-old from inner-city Oakland, to find his way in a world far different from his own. In 1973 Isaiah was awarded a scholarship to attend one of California’s elite boarding schools – and found that as an African-American, he didn’t have much in common with most of the other students and teachers at Chadwick.
Wilhite lives in Oakland and has written prep sports articles for the Oakland Tribune. He also freelances stories for the Philadelphia Inquirer, and writes book reviews for the Philadelphia Tribune.
