Freedom High School senior Kim Westlund recently received a scholarship to play softball for the Big West champion Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs next fall under Head Coach Jenny Condon.

Westlund’s credentials include playing starting shortstop for the Falcons for four straight years and ASA travel softball for 11 years (including an ASA Gold team). In addition to being named team captain for Freedom’s varsity basketball and softball teams, Westlund played for the school’s 2007-09 BVAL champion and 2008 NCS champion softball squads, and was voted 2007 Rookie of the Year, 2009 First-Team All-League shortstop, and was named to the Scholastic Honor Roll 2007-09. She also played for the 2009 ASA National Gold champion Sorcerers.

In her senior year, Westlund is enjoying her work as chief editor of journalism, and when not traveling, she attends Golden Hills church and is a part of the Church’s high school youth group.
