Los Medanos is currently building on its existing heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration program, significantly modifying existing curriculum to incorporate green energy concepts, tools, equipment and practices, and developing new courses that address the building envelope and mechanical systems.
New classes will initially include green building technology, green mechanical systems, weatherization and plumbing, plus energy auditing and energy-efficient lighting. The new classes – offered to unemployed or under-employed workers with a construction background – will initially be offered in a series of intense, sequential classes meeting four hours per day, three to four days per week for two to three weeks.
Upon course completion, participants may be eligible to take industry-recognized certification exams for certified green building professional, home energy rater, water/energy auditor, and weatherization specialist/auditor.
