Two of the top local high school girls soccer teams – Heritage and Liberty – clashed for the second time this season last week. The Patriots won 3-2, avenging their 0-2 loss to the Lions in match two weeks earlier.

Heritage got on the board first 10 minutes into the game, but Liberty answered right back a minute later. With 10 minutes left in the first half, Heritage took the lead and built on it midway through the second half to go ahead 3-1. Liberty scored with 14 minutes remaining in the game, but the Heritage defense shut down the Lions from then on with help from Patriot goalkeeper Katie Barsanti, who made nine saves.

The win provided both teams with identical 6-1-2 league records. The rubber match in this cross-town rivalry will take place 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at Heritage.

On Tuesday, Liberty went on the road to Deer Valley and on Thursday traveled to Freedom. Their next Liberty game is at home on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Heritage played Freedom on Tuesday and Pittsburg on Thursday. Its next game is Thursday, Feb. 4 at Antioch.
