Participating in a Rotary District 5160 Northern California-wide effort, members of the Antioch and Delta Rotary Clubs will be installing free smoke alarms and batteries on Saturday, April 24 in the homes of senior citizens in Antioch.

Donated by The Home Depot in Brentwood, the smoke alarms and batteries will be installed as part of the annual Rotarians At Work Day.

Local Rotarians will check the homes of seniors who request assistance in order to ensure the proper operation of existing smoke alarms; install batteries in those that need them and alarms in the homes without them.

“This is one small way we can help our community and keep our seniors safe,” said Antioch Club President Allen Payton.

Local firefighters from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District will also help with the installation.

Seniors who would like to participate in the one-day program can sign up at the Antioch Senior Center, 415 W. Second St. in downtown Antioch.

“We really want to thank The Home Depot, the firefighters and the City of Antioch’s Senior Center staff for their assistance in this effort,” said Club Vice President Dan Garcia, who is in charge of the project along with Co-chairs Krist Jensen and Minh Nguyen of the Antioch Club, and Delta Club President Jim Lanter.

The Rotary Club of Antioch was formed in 1947 and is committed to the Rotary motto of Service Above Self. For information on membership, visit www.antiochrotary.com or the club’s Facebook page. Rotary Club of the Delta-Antioch was formed in 1989. For more information, visit www.rotaryclubofthedelta.org.
