“It’s been a tough couple years for people in the county, and we wanted to do something special this year,” said the fair’s CEO Lori Marshall. “We worked really hard to get some big-name entertainment, and I think this is the best lineup we’ve ever had.”
MC Hammer, who soared to the top of the charts in the late 1980s and early ’90s with hits such as “U Can’t Touch This” and his album “Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em,” will take the stage Friday, June 4. Hammertime begins at 7 p.m. Cover band Skynnyn Lynnyrd will keep the party going with a performance on the pavilion stage starting at 8:30 p.m.
“I’m doing shows all around the world, but there’s no place like home – where Hammertime began,” Hammer said. “Let’s get it started!”
Platinum artists Great White will give fairgoers a taste of their signature style of rock at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, and retro band Summer of Love will add some ’60s groove to the lineup on Thursday, June 3 at 6 and 8 p.m.
MC Hammer tickets go on sale April 5. The cost is $20 for reserved seating and $15 for general admission. The Great White, Summer of Love and Skynnyn Lynnyrd shows are free with fair admission. MC Hammer and fair tickets can be purchased on the fair’s Web site at www.contracostafair.com.
