Allison Furgurson will be honored at the Liberty Union High School District Athletic Hall of Fame’s 19th annual awards dinner on Saturday, April 24 in the Stonebarger New Gym Complex at Liberty High School.

Allison Furgurson entered Freedom High School in 1996 and became an instant success in the athletic program as an outstanding golfer on the boys gold team, on which she lettered all four years.

As a freshman, Furgurson was the team’s Most Valuable Player and League Champion. She was selected to the All Tri-Valley League First Team and was named North Coast Champion. In the state tournament she tied for fifth place – not bad for a freshman girl playing against the boys.

In her sophomore year, Furgurson was once more selected as MVP and Tri-Valley League Champion, named to the All-League First Team and took second place in the North Coast Championships. She again tied for fifth place at the State Championships and qualified in the Junior World of Golf Top 40 Players.

Furgurson’s junior year continued to be as sensational as her first two. She repeated as Freedom’s MVP, Tri-Valley County Athletic League Champion, and was chosen to the All-League First team for the third time. She placed fourth at NCS Championships and was nominated by the Contra Costa Times as Top Prep Athlete of the Year.

As a senior, Furgurson continued her reign as the outstanding leader of the Freedom Golf Team. She lettered again and was chosen team MVP and Tri-Valley League Champion for the fourth year in a row. She was selected to the All Tri-Valley League First Team, named Contra Costa Times Athlete of the Week, and again nominated for the Top Prep Athlete of the Year.

Upon graduation, Furgurson attended California State University Monterey Bay, where she played on the golf team for the first semester. She then decided to take the Professional Golf Association of America’s Players Ability Test, which she passed in August of 2006 on her first attempt – 36 holes in one day. There are three levels of golf professionals and the program must be completed in eight years. Furgurson is now at level two. Her goal is to be a Class A Golf Professional. She has one more level to go to reach her goal. She is currently working and teaching as an Assistant Professional at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento.
