The evolution of vaudeville to contemporary musical theater will be the subject of a new review-style show presented by the students of Brentwood Teen Theater. The curtain goes up for “Best of Broadway,” which features more than 20 musical numbers and large dance production numbers, on Saturday, May 15 at 7:30, p.m.; Sunday, May 16 at 3 p.m.; and Saturday, May 22 at 3 and 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Resurrection Ministries, 1275 Fairview Ave. in Brentwood.

The performance will be a culmination of a training program for students 8 to 19. Performers will dance, sing, emcee and act as they salute the Broadway musical. Brentwood Team Theater actors receive training in performance skills from professional director Steve Kinsella, who brought his training and production companies to Brentwood in 2004. Since then, many students who came through Brentwood Teen Theater have gone on to receive college scholarships. Some have begun lives as professional entertainers.

“It is the philosophy of Brentwood Teen Theater that students are often not challenged enough,” said Kinsella. “An aggressive curriculum of the skills necessary to produce the “Best of Broadway” show have been taught in a supportive, nurturing atmosphere. “I always feel that when you take care of the individual, their contributions are richer to the final product.”

Advance ticketholders will have priority seating. Call 925-516-9009 (no credit card is required) for advance tickets, which may be paid for and picked up at the door. Or reserve your seats online at www.brentwoodteentheater.com.
