The Delta Diamondbacks 11U baseball team, comprising boys from Brentwood, Oakley and Antioch, have brought home championships in both of their two tournament appearances this season.

In the Manteca A thru Z Baseball 11U Open, the No. 1 seeded D-Backs won a thrilling game against the River City Bandits. The D-Backs put together a three-run first inning, led by Ronnie Rivers’ triple, Abel Ordaz’s single, Brodie Garner’s double and Ryan Mucher’s single. Their four-run fourth inning featured hits by Connor Cunningham, Kevin Lonergan and Carlos Rodriguez. Rivers came in and shut down the Bandits’ late rally and the D-Backs held on for an 8-7 victory.

In the championship game against the undefeated Continental Cobras, the D-Backs trailed 6-3 in the top of the sixth inning – two outs away from defeat. But consecutive hits by Garner, Jason Gavello and Mucher brought them within one run of tying the game. After a strike out, a walk, and a balk to tie the game, Lonergan lined a two-out, 0-2 fastball into left field to drive in the game-winning runs and deliver the D-Backs their first championship of the year.

The D-Backs then traveled to Rancho Cordova for the St. Patrick’s Day Super Series tournament. The D-Backs got clutch RBI hits from Carlos Rodriguez and Mucher to take a 3-0 lead into the sixth, where Cunningham slammed the door shut for the 3-0 championship victory.
