Former Byron resident Eva Gill of Rupert, Idaho passed away recently at Parke View Care Center in Burley, Idaho.

Eva was born in Norwood, Mo., one of seven children of Jesse and Nola McGowan. She lived her younger life in Missouri, where she grew up on the family farm.

In 1946, Eva married Brendon G. Gill. In their earlier years, they lived in San Lorenzo, where Eva worked for Rawlston’s Drug Supply Company and the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. In 1978, they moved to Byron.

Eva and Gill shared many outdoor activities, including fishing, boating, abalone diving and gardening. She was a wonderful homemaker who always had an open door for family and friends; something tasty to eat that she had cooked, baked or canned; and a friendly game of cards. Eva enjoyed crafts and made beautiful hand-stitched quilts. In 1994, her husband Brendon passed away. Eva moved to Rupert, Idaho in 2003 to be near her sister.

She is survived by her brother, Willard McGowan of Missouri; her aunt, Gladys West and daughter, Mary Ann Steinman of Brentwood; and beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Eva was preceded in death by sisters Doris Forrest and Pauline Ball Cooper; and by brothers Robert, Lee and Merle McGowan.

Services were held at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mountain Grove, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Eva’s name to the American Cancer Society.
