La Clinica de La Raza and the Latino Cancer Collaborative of Contra Costa (LC4) will celebrate good health at the annual family health fair on Saturday, June 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 971 O’Hara Ave. in Oakley. The free fair features bilingual English and Spanish cancer education, dental, bone density and other health screenings in a fun and entertaining atmosphere.

LC4 is a public/private partnership dedicated to eliminating cancer inequities for Latinos in Contra Costa County by reducing late detection of cancer through community outreach and education and building and enhancing a culturally and linguistically competent continuum of care that provides advocacy, education and support for the county’s Latinos diagnosed with cancer.

Early cancer detection and access to treatment is critical to saving lives. Many Latinos fall through the cracks of the health care system due to barriers such as language and communication problems, fear and mistrust of the system, lack of access to or knowledge of affordable health insurance, cultural beliefs and stigmas related to cancer, and logistical problems such as transportation. LC4 is committed to overcoming these barriers.
