A group of residents led by former Councilman Allen Payton is raising funds to put on Fourth of July festivities, including fireworks, following the event’s cancellation by the City of Antioch due to its ongoing budget crisis.

“We have the cost of the fireworks covered by a local businessman, and are working to get the costs reduced with donations of services,” said Payton via e-mail.

“But we need to raise funds for the additional $40,000 in estimated city staff time.

“We’re asking all the service clubs in Antioch and anyone who would like to contribute to do so to help cover the costs of the event, so we can provide the fireworks to the people of Antioch.”

To donate or for more information, e-mail antiochfireworks@rocketmail.com or call Payton at 925-457-0414 or 925-457-5324. The tax ID number is 20-5300684.
