Oakley resident Goldie Nellis celebrated her 100th birthday on June 19 at the Driftwood Yacht Club, surrounded by family and friends who traveled from as far as Texas, Tennessee and Louisiana to be part of the momentous occasion. More than 100 people, including five generations of the Nellis family, were in attendance.

Goldie was born in Michigan and moved to Pennsylvania at the age of 3. She spent most of her life in Pennsylvania, marrying George, who is now deceased. Together they had four daughters: Helen, Arlene and Joanne (who are deceased) and Lorena, with whom Goldie currently lives in Oakley.

Goldie has seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews plus great-nieces and nephews. She is presently a member of St. Michael’s and All Angels Church in Concord, and her hobbies include reading and knitting.
