Discovery Bay resident Michael Labrador, left, with brother Phil, recently treated family and friends to a home-cooked skillet of the traditional Spanish dish paella.

The popular meat, seafood and rice dish is a favorite of the Labrador family’s longstanding backyard Paella party.

This year Michael was selected to prepare his paella dish at the prestigious Gilroy Garlic Festival on July 24, where he took home third-place honors out of thousands of contestants.
