In the dirt modifieds it was Scott Busby, who has built a legendary reputation in his division over Northern California tracks. Busby doesn’t race as much as when he was the king of Grand American racing.
However, the Martinez businessman still can show the younger drivers some excellent racing techniques when the chips are down. At the completion of the dirt modified main event last weekend, it was Busby finishing ahead of Jeff Thomas and Chester Kniss.
The winner of the wingless sprint main event survived some yellow flag action in the closing laps of the race, as four racers were knocked out with five laps to go and three more fell victim on the last lap.
That left Rowdy McClenon, who calls the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico his home track, to take the checkered flag. Veteran former champion Jim Perry took second and championship contender David Press finished third.
The dirt modifieds will return to action Saturday night and be joined by the super stocks, dwarf cars, four bangers and hard tops.
