East County music theater lovers are in for a treat when the musical “Auction Gallery” takes the Brentwood Playhouse stage Aug. 13 to 29 at The Streets of Brentwood. Directed by Steve Kinsella and presented by the Brentwood Arts Society and the Kinsella Conservatory Theater, the work features a cast of award-winning actors from New York to San Francisco.

“Auction Gallery” has been in the works for nearly 20 years. Phillip Canville was inspired to write the libretto after viewing great works of art and enjoying world-class theater while on London excursions with the theater faculty of Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill.

“Auction Gallery” takes place the night before a major auction at a fine arts gallery, where famous works of art are assembled for sale. When the art comes to life, what follows is a theatrical storytelling event that asks the question: “What if as we viewed the art, the art viewed us?”

“Auction Gallery” is the second in the Broadway Under The Stars summer theater series, which began with “Guys and Dolls” and will climax in September with “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

All seats are reserved. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and performances begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors (65 and over) and $15 for students and children 17 and under. Concessions will include Code Brew Coffee.

For reservations, call 925-516-8500, ext. 203, or visit www.brentwoodartsociety.net.
