The Liberty Union High School District has been notified that it will receive $237,138 over three years to provide a Tobacco Use Prevention and Education (TUPE) Program that will reach every student in the district. Funding from the California Department of Education will provide classroom materials, professional development, and supplies for tobacco education and prevention activities at school and in the community.

The district will engage the elementary schools, community and faith-based organizations, and business partners to participate in the TUPE program to provide alternatives to tobacco use – such as physical activity, artwork, music, other creative endeavors and community service.

“I am pleased for our students, especially during these challenging economic times, that we will be able to provide this program to educate them about the real dangers of tobacco use,” said LUHSD Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Gene Clare. “Funds will be used to strengthen their decision-making skills, build character assets and learn about positive alternatives to using tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.”
