Defense set the pace as the visiting Delta Patriots Varsity West battled the Delta Valley Wolfpack to a scoreless tie through regulation before coming out on top 7-6 in overtime.
The Wolfpack took the lead in overtime but failed to punch in the extra point. Varsity West fullback Benny Orozco then pulled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Alex Hull to tie the extra session. Running back Kyle Trego followed a strong push from the line on a dive to score the winning extra point.
West cornerbacks Dylan Capps and Michael Letak each pulled down interceptions to halt Wolfpack drives. Defensive linemen Kai Enabenter and Taylor Schwitter offered strong resistance all game against a massive Wolfpack front line.
Rookies West
The Delta Patriots Rookies West rolled over the Delta Valley Wolfpack 33-0. Jordan Suckow led with three touchdowns, Josh Capps added one TD rushing and Conner Capps tacked on a receiving score for 243 total yards. The defense was lead by Isiah Farnsworth, who made seven tackles and Devon Lance, who contributed six on a defense that gave up a scant 19 yards.
Starts East
The Patriots Starts East team clashed pads with the Pittsburg Pirates and won its first game of the season. Colby Hunter went 50 yards on a reverse play to score a touchdown for the East in the second quarter. Greg Filardo scored the one-point conversion that allowed the Patriots to claim the victory. Excellent defense by Brenden Howard, Nathan Stansbery, Caden Lewis and Nico Torrez kept the Patriots in the game. The Pirates scored their only touchdown in the second half, but Blake Capurro blocked the point-after attempt to clinch the win for the Patriots.
JV West
Delta Patriots JV West blanked the Delta Valley Wolfpack 20-0. The scoreless tie was broken at the end of the second quarter when quarterback Ezra Magalia sneaked it in for a 6-0 Patriot lead. In the beginning of the second half, JV West put points on the board with a safety engineered by Alex Einess and Alejandro Espinoza, which put the Pats up 8-0. The Patriots kept the momentum alive on a touchdown run by Alex Espinoza, followed by a late fourth-quarter TD run by Riley Condon. Solid plays by Austin Handel, Jake Archibald, Grant Guilliams and Ryan Page helped bring the JV West record to 2-1.
